Cynthia Warren, Jim Haggerty, and Helen Coldwell battle it out for the the U.S. presidency. Warren, former governor of the state of New York, Haggerty, senator from Ohio, and Coldwell, a California senator, each one as passionate and determined to win as the others. Marital infidelity, a senate investigation, blackmail attempts, mud-slinging, drugs, and violence in the form of an assassin dominate the months of the hard-fought campaign. Carl Drake, Coldwell’s campaign manager, is an evil-minded draconian character obsessed with the idea of being White House chief-of-staff. Tom Harding, a senator whose favorite companion is a pitcher of beer with whiskey chasers, is from Warren’s own party, but teams up with Drake because he wants Haggerty in the White House. Together they put up an ominous mountain of dirty tricks and criminal acts to stop Warren. Meanwhile, John Franks, fired employee of a package express company, turns to violence as he decides that he must kill all those in control of his miserable life, and that involves him in a desperate struggle to find the right opportunity to eliminate a presidential candidate. As the campaigns pound on, Warren’s long-time friend, confidant, and campaign assistant, Lilly, is confronted with her son’s drug addiction and the horrible trials that follow him as Harding and Drake find out and make his life a miserable place to be. Coldwell’s ex-husband returns and tries to blackmail her, and Warren’s billionaire spouse, CEO of an enormous electronics conglomerate, and adamantly and emotionally opposed to her run for the White House, turns to another woman. The assassin, Franks, finally finds his mark and blood runs as a victim falls bringing fear to both campaigns...and his work is not finished. Twists and turns abound as the national election is days away and polling shows the candidates well within the margin of error and no indication of who might pull ahead in the final count.

Paul Novak has published three books. He has written a lot of magazine articles too, which, by the grace of the writing gods, have been published also. Some of those articles concern his activities as a navigator on a B-52 bomber during the Viet Nam War, and he thinks you’ll find them fascinating. The rest of the articles tell about others who flew and were also shot at during the conflict. Some narrowly survived. Myles McTernan, for instance, in Novak’s upcoming book, Into Hostile Skies is one of those lucky souls with a miraculous survival story. Anyway, that’s about it except to say that Novak did go to college and actually graduated so pressed his luck and got a Master’s Degree in something. Now, he teaches creative writing for an adult extension of Arizona State University near Phoenix, Arizona where he lives with his dear wife, Amy, who totally supports his quest to write stuff that is often good enough for publication.
