A get to know Comet ISON book for kids and for the adults who will have to answer all those questions about the fuzzy thing that has appeared in the sky. Anura Guruge, the author of this book, has already published two books on Comet ISON for adults. Comet ISON, C/2012 S1 (ISON), is expected to be a sight to behold, a very bright comet with a long flowing tail. It might, as it gets close to the Sun, be bright enough to be seen during the day – a daylight visible comet. It is hoped that ISON will be a ‘great’. There is a possibility that it might even surpass that to become the ‘comet of the century’. It will, however, definitely be the first comet seen by most kids in the northern hemisphere not to mention their parents – Hale Bopp, in 1997, having been the last major comet readily seen north of the equator. Kids, as they should, will be intrigued and captivated. Yes, there will also be some understandable ‘concerns’ since they will, alas, hear unfounded stories about what this comet is going to do. This book will make sure that they get to know and appreciate the facts. This comet, like the majority of other comets, is harmless. Just a treat in the sky. Kids should keep this book as a memento to remind them in years to come and that they were indeed lucky enough to see Comet ISON, the ‘great comet of 2013’.

Anura Gurugé was born in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) in 1953. He, however, came of age in Britain, after year long stays in Buffalo (U.S) and Paris. Though he has lived in the U.S., the second time around since 1985, mainly in New Hampshire, he is very much a ‘Brit’ at heart, cricket an abiding passion. He started computer programming in 1969, and went to work for IBM when he was 20. Over the years he also worked for the likes of ITT, Wang and BBN, and was, for two decades, a leading authority on IBM networking. Writing, however, has been a consuming pastime since the early 1980s. His first book was published in 1984. Four further books on technology as well as over 350 technical publications followed. Around 2006, with IBM networking an oxymoron, he turned his attention to papal history, art and astronomy. This is his 17th sole-author book. He has a Master’s in computer science, three daughters, one son and two Goldens. www.guruge.com.
