Do you ever catch yourself wondering, “How am I doing?” “What could I do to make these people think better of me?” “How am I coming off?” In Defense of the Pastor exposes the ego’s incessant yet often unnoticed activity of building and maintaining self-images and the inevitably destructive and exhausting results. Through this collection of personal essays, a pastor’s ego and self-defense are confessed and explored openly and honestly. Sometimes humorous, sometimes tragic, these stories lead to the heart of Christian truth; the death of the self and being raised into freedom of life with Christ, not as a theological ideal, but as an existential reality
