This anthology addresses the diversity and creativity of the Jewish urban experience over nearly five centuries from India to Odessa, South Africa to Los Angeles, and points between. The Jewish Street mixes works by well-known authors with hidden gems by lesser-known writers, some never before collected in an anthology of Jewish writers.

About the Author
Murray Baumgarten teaches urban Jewish writing and Dickens at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he is a Distinguished Professor of English & Comparative Literature and co-Director of Jewish Studies. Founding Director of the Dickens Project, he also studies modern Jewish writing of the city. His books include City Scriptures: Modern Jewish Writing and Understanding Philip Roth, and he has edited Homes and Homelessness in the Victorian Imagination. He is the founding editor-in-chief of the California Carlyle Edition and the Emeritus Editor of Judaism: A Quarterly Journal Of Jewish Life & Thought. Recently he has been working on the afterlife of the Venice Ghetto, and is a founder of the Venice Center for International Jewish Studies.
