People view animals as things to be used, like socks or tissue paper; but what if they were able to fight back.... Animals are not what they seem. They are spirits hiding in flesh and blood form; the prototypes for our angels and demons, and they are about to show themselves to us. There are two factions: those who believe people are advanced enough to accept them, to learn from them, and to live alongside them; and those who cannot forgive humankind’s abuse. The latter’s aim is to dominate and to punish humans, as animals have been punished. Some people sense that what happens to them is not only connected to how they treat other people but also how they treat animals. They do not agree that having top primate rank gives them the right to eat, use, and torture their innocent, vulnerable co-companions on this planet. Animals have already shown their true aspect to a few of those lucky people. In the animal kingdom lore, however, two children – the ‘Wakers’ – will be born, who will ‘wake up’ humanity to what animals are. What happens to people will depend on which faction finds the two Wakers first. The Wakers, unaware of who they are, are finally here. The animals were told that they would know the Wakers by their scent: a combination of lotuses, chocolate chip cookies baking in the oven, mint, pine needles, vanilla, coffee brewing, and rain; and that is what nine year old Tara Blackstone and eleven year old Sam Jones smell like.
