Reflections on everyday life. On Wings of Words is an eclectic collection of poetry from Bud Attonito. Bud is a native of New York but has settled nicely in the mountains of Northeast Georgia. The poet has been writing for over 40 years and has written pieces on a range of subjects that reflect everyday living and life experiences. You’ll enjoy poems that make you laugh out loud or bring a tear to your eye. You will find yourself calling friends to share your favorites. Eighty years of age is the perfect time to publish your first book, your only complaint will be that he waited so long. Enjoy!

I started writing poetry about forty years ago and still write, as the spirit intermittently moves me. Why do I write? I write because it’s fun and sometimes it distracts my mind from negative, unproductive thought. The genre as well as the subject matter varies, going from rhyming to free verse with a smattering of other forms here and there. There’s a common thread running through much of my work. Nature is such an overwhelming force permeating so much of life that I found myself drawn to her over and over again. Sometimes the message is obvious, sometimes it is subtle. Some of the things I’ve written are serious, sometimes even mournful, while at other times I attempt to twist things in an amusing way. All of my work has been inspired either by others or by a situation I have experienced. The sources of inspiration are endless. My thanks to God the creator, for all inspiration begins with Him. One of the best rewards for writing is sharing one’s work with other writers and interested listeners. There’s always something to be enjoyed and learned from the critique of one’s work by others as well as from hearing their creative expression. In this book I have not attempted to number pages or arrange my work in any kind of order as to do so would go against my philosophy as expressed in “Organization, UGH” I am now 80 years old. I was born, raised, and spent most of my adult life on Long Island. I taught for forty years and enjoyed almost every moment of it. Joan, my wife of sixty years, also enjoyed a long career as a creative, respected teacher. We now live in the northeast Georgia Mountains. We have two gifted sons: Dave, who also lives in Georgia, attended the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan where he earned a Fine Arts Degree in Illustration. He’s a highly creative artist who owns and operates a tattoo shop. John lives on the western slope of Colorado and is a very talented jewelry designer and bowyer. Mandy Jean, our daughter-in-law, is a devoted mother and master baker. Gracie is our 13-year-old granddaughter and, well, Gracie keeps us smiling and laughing.
