Born in North Korea, Daisy Lee Yang came down to the South right after the Korean liberation from Japan with her parents. She started school in Seoul when the Korean War broke out in 1950. After the war, her family moved to Japan where her education continued at Japanese and American schools. In 1958, she came to Hawaii, her father's birthplace. She obtained her college degree from the University of Hawaii. She got married and moved to Kentucky where her husband and she studied, lived, and taught at several universities, including the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville. Moving back to Korea in 1987, she taught at several universities before retiring in l998. She and her husband now live in a town in the outskirt of Seoul. They have a son and a daughter and four grandchildren who live in Seattle, Washington.
