Book Description CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform. Paperback. Book Condition: New. This item is printed on demand. 252 pages. Dimensions: 9.0in. x 6.0in. x 0.6in.This is a book of fiction, a story of three women in three succeeding generations. First there is Edith, gentle-natured, late twenties, fond of reading, daughter of an Anglican Minister in rural Jamaica in the 1880s. After a brief, unfortunate marriage in 1889 to an elderly author, she takes a post as Matron in a boys boarding school to help support her infant son who is adopted by his grandfather, the Pastor. After his death, Edith and her young son Neil, move to Kingston. There, her hotel owner brother helps Neil to become an Attorney. Next is Luisa, 15, oldest child in a large Roman Catholic family. Her parents are very strict, allowing her almost no social life. She spends her time between the Convent school and helping care for her many younger siblings at home - with occasional visits to her adored paternal grandmother. By chance, she meets Neil. He immediately falls in love with her. With her parents approval, he courts her, waiting patiently for three years for her to turn eighteen. In 1925 they marry in the Roman Catholic cathedral, despite Neils being Anglican. Lastly, there is Eve, oldest of the five children of Neil and Luisa, born in 1928. She describes - growing up, daughter of Jamaican white parents, professional father, in Jamaica of the 1930s and 1940s - against the background of World War 11 during most of her teens. Her years as banking secretary and European traveller in the 1950s. Her own personal story of relationships with family - her broken romance with an alcoholic boyfriend. Then her marriage to Howard, an American in 1959. Her moving to Miami to a very different lifestyle. How they dealt with tragedy, illness and joblessness at times throughout their long-playing marriage. . . . . . being thankful on her 85th birthday in 2013 for the blessings being together, of daughters, grandchildren, family and friends.
