Author Marc Paulsen was just five years old when the first J-3 cub rolled off the assembly line. Little did he realize what an impact a this plane would make in his life. "Magic In The Air" tells the story of this daring (and sometimes foolhardy) pilot from when he first set foot in an airplane then bought his own J-3 at the age of 29 for $1250 and began many outrageous adventures iin aviation over the next 50 years. The book is a MUST for wannabe and licensed pilots alike especially those who own a taildragger like the J3 Cub (or want to own one). There are a lot of things pilots wonder "what would happen if..." but are too cautious to try. Well, Marc probably tried those antics and more but luckily still lived to tell about them. At least you will learn what NOT to do!

About the author: Marc Paulsen's infatuation with airplane flight began in 1943 when, as a ten-year-old, he looked up to the skies and gazed in amazement as great formations of Boeing B-17 Flying Fortresses soared overhead on their way from manufacture in Seattle to the sunny climes of California and the U.S. Southwest. They were on their way to new airfields built expressly for training cadet pilots who would ultimately fly them into WWII combat. When Marc s older cousin returned from Army Air Corps duty after the big war, he purchased a flight for Marc in a tiny Piper J-3 Cub. Marc s fate was sealed! The moment he became old enough (and earned a modest amount of money) he began flight lessons. Although a full 12 years elapsed from his first flight lesson until the day he received his pilot s license, his interest in airplanes never flagged. Marc went on to own ten different airplanes and enjoy an exciting flight avocation that lasted 20 years, all at a time when small used airplanes were surprisingly inexpensive.
