In February of 2004, the thirteenth fell on a Friday. Unlike the other Friday the 13th’s of the previous twenty four years, one woman was at peace. The passage of time had helped heal the wound of losing a child to miscarriage on a Friday the thirteenth. Prior such dates had accentuated the pain. That peace would last for seven more days. Mid afternoon on the 20th, she experienced a soul draining sadness out of nowhere. It would be about an hour or so before its reason was revealed. The nightmarish call from an emergency room doctor, told her that her son had died in a car collision. Somehow her son Jared had come to her to say goodbye prior to that call. It was a language that only the heart could understand; the mind had to wait for the words. Vickie’s journey through grief has been put into words on the following pages. Soon after Jared’s passing, Vickie began experiencing dream visits from Jared and other family members. A fair amount of angst existed as to whether these dreams were simply the mind’s way of coping or if they were real. The vividness and the means of communication were unlike any dreams she had ever experienced. In time, Vickie knew that these dream visits were communications from the other side. Vickie allows the reader to understand the pain of losing a child, access to her dream visits and finally, a glimpse of dealing with the trial of the man responsible for Jared’s death. Underlying the story is a tribute to a loving and compassionate young man: our son, Jared Christopher Miller.
