Carrie derives her understanding and experience with healthcare issues and approaches from a somewhat eclectic education and hands-on encounters. With one foot in the halls of western allopathic medicine and one foot in the alternative health and lifestyle medicine worlds, she has ferreted out true treatments from the false sciences and popular fads. Carrie Beets graduated with a Bachelors degree in Health Sciences from San Diego State University in San Diego, California. She worked in a NIH grant position for the Intensive Care Nursery, Dept. of Pediatrics at Stanford University Medical Center for several years before returning to graduate school. She attended graduate school studies at University of California at Los Angeles Orthotics Program and at the Northwestern University Prosthetics-Orthotics Center. She served a one-year hospital-based clinical internship in the field of orthotics at Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center; and became American Board certified in orthotics in 1984. She has co-authored eight medical journal articles and was a national speaker. Carrie made a mid-life career change and became a licensed massage therapist, and obtained her national certification in therapeutic massage and bodywork. In addition to working in a lifestyle medicine clinic and a part-time private practice, providing clients with both hydrotherapy treatments and massage, she went on to establish a massage school, became a NCBTMB nationally approved provider of continuing education for licensed massage therapists; and became a hydrotherapy instructor, a certified wellness coach, a certified stress management coach, and developed a wellness coach certification program. She has authored several books.
