A True Love Story in World War II

A moving story of love, fearlessness and redemption that will keep readers holding their breath with suspense until the final moving pages!

When 22-year-old Hans meets a young waitress named Veronika in Berlin, it doesn't take long for her humor and beauty to win him—and his heart—over completely. After all, Veronika is everything a young military man could want: she’s his age, blonde, stunningly beautiful and, most importantly, loves him in return. Unfortunately, unrest is brewing across the world, unrest that soon explodes into all-out war. That means Hans, an SS Officer, is forced to break his promises to Veronika and their unborn child, departing for Poland to fulfill his duty to the Nazis.

Things grow even more complicated!

But while he is away, Veronika won’t just sit idly by. She sees injustice in this country she has always loved, and so must act. It doesn’t take long for the Nazis to discover that she has been helping Jews; the fact that she has an SS Officer husband means nothing to them. Forced to flee everything she has ever known, Veronika soon disappears into history, leaving Hans alone and with a mystery. Many years later, their son crosses paths with a father he’s never met and, by chance, might just bring his broken family together again. Roses and Chocolate is a moving story of love, courage, and redemption that will keep readers holding their breath with suspense until the final moving pages!

About the Author:

Maria Johnsen's writing abilities stem from a early passion for literature that was fostered by The Greats. Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Anton Chekhov, Leo Tolstoy, Émile Zola, Mark Twain and Charles Dickens all contributed to Maria's enthusiasm for poetry, fiction and nonfiction alike. Creating her first fiction story at just ten years old, Maria went on to write her first screenplay aged 13 which she offered to a popular filmmaker who was an associate of her Father's. Greatly moved and inspired by the work of Dostoyevsky, Maria had crafted a tale about poverty and was invited to go along with her father to speak with the film producer. After reading a segment of the synopsis, he offered her a piece of advice that has served her ever since: "Maria, this really is a competently composed tale, but you know absolutely nothing about poverty! If you would like to illustrate about the rain you must stand under it, experience it and then write about it. It is advisable to write about issues that are important to you. Compose a tale about yourself, friends and family and your ambitions." he said. Immediately taking this on board, Maria never forgot his words, and began striving to bring passion, depth and authenticity to her work. With a degree in Political Economy, a BA in Information Technology, a BA in Informatics, a Beauty Arts degree from Sorbonne University in Paris and a Master of Science degree in Computer Engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Maria's professional background is as vast as it is diverse. Her skills extend across the sales, marketing, software design and business intelligence industries and she is a multilingual SEO, PPC and social media marketing expert, this year being ranked the 6th most Influential Digital Marketing Expert in the world. Along with the international expansion of her company Golden Way Media and her incredible business career successes comes a natural thirst for knowledge that has led to creative expression in the form of writing. Maria has published a range of poetry, fiction and nonfiction books, offering her extensive knowledge and experience to the world while at the same time nourishing a childhood love for storytelling.
