Esmeralda arrives home holding in her hands a letter she received from her friend Alvaro. She is a young woman with long, dark hair. She is anxious to read her correspondence.
She behaves like that every time she receives letters from her special friend.
"Aunt, come here!" she screams grasping. "I got a letter from Alvaro!"
"How is he?" her aunt asks approaching her niece.
"I have not read the letter yet," she says and sits on her bed opening the white envelope carefully.
The noise of the paper being torn echoes through the room.
As soon as Esmeralda finishes reading the last paragraph of the letter, she quickly says to her aunt, "He's coming back!"
"Alvaro's coming back? When, darling?"
"Next month," she says smiling down at her letter.
"How marvelous! I want to see him!"
Esmeralda looks at the letter again and asks confused,
"I just don't understand why this sudden arrival?"
"He must be tired of the big city," her aunt deduces.
"It was only a few weeks ago he sent a letter to me, saying he loves the big city."
"He must have changed his mind."
"I am really happy knowing I'll see my friend again after so many years!"
"Alvaro must have grown into a very handsome young man!" Ana says, remembering what Alvaro looked like years ago.
"He told me the girls go crazy for him in the big city,"
Esmeralda says proud of her friend. Her smile becomes stronger showing her joy.
"I can imagine it!"
"But his heart is broken, pining for a woman that deceived him. She is shameless gal."
Ana looks at her niece's face. "You are a good friend! He tells you everything, Esmeralda!" she affirms.
"He trusts me and I also tell him all about my life."
"Did you talk to him when you bled for the first time?" She jokes.
Esmeralda answers innocently, "I would never talk about that to Alvaro. It is shameful!"
"That is natural. Every woman goes through that," Mrs. Ana says.
