Synopsis
The author's love of beauty and adventure could only be fully explored when retirement provided the time and opportunity to pursue those passions. She offers her stories and illustrations in “Hither and Yon”, hoping to entice her readers to venture forth and find beauty for themselves. Collected from her library of watercolor sketchbook journals, she regales the reader with little tidbits from her journeys and pictures painted on the go. From getting lost in foreign cities to losing purses and cameras, from traveling by ship, plane, bus, and train to slowly wandering by car through the mountains, her stories and the beautiful watercolor sketches bring those experiences to life. At times funny, often poignant, these tales of world travel are fresh and appealing. A native Mississippian living in Georgia, Lee continues to look for new places to visit.

About the Author
Donette Dunaway Lee was born in the Mississippi Delta and grew up in the small farming community of Hollandale. At the request of her mother’s sister, Donette was named after her Aunt Suzette and her new husband Don; she is frequently asked if her father's name was Don. Finishing high school in the mid-fifties, she graduated from Mississippi State College for Women (now Mississippi University for Women) with a degree in Sacred Music. After several years at home with her children, she entered the business world and retired from BellSouth Telecommunications Company in 1994. Though she had an interest in art her entire life, her small school did not offer any art instruction. Finally retirement allowed time to take art lessons. Also due to the pressures of a career, she had to postpone her visits to distant places. Since ending her career, the combination of these two loves has provided many years of pleasure. Lee lives in a senior community in Hiram, Georgia. Her two daughters, Larraine and Marietta, and their families also live in Georgia.
