With hundreds of step-by-step illustrated instructions and a user-friendly, stay-flat format, Patternmaking with Stretch Knit Fabrics provides emerging fashion designers with comprehensive information on how to draft patterns for popular cut-and-sew stretch knit fabrics such as jersey and knits with spandex. After covering the
basics of knits and techniques for gauging stretch capacity, Julie Cole introduces a unique, simplified approach to drafting slopers using hip and top foundations. She then provides information on converting, drafting, grading, and reducing patterns for proper fit in four categories of stretch. The book proceeds to drafting slopers and patterns for tops, dresses, jackets, sweaters, cardigans, skirts, pants, lingerie, swimwear, and activewear.
Patternmaking with Stretch Knit Fabrics is ideal for students with basic or intermediate design, patternmaking, and sewing skills for any course in which students design and draft patterns for knits; or courses that incorporate both knits and woven fabrics.

Julie Cole has taught fashion design courses at Harper College, International Academy of Design and Technology and Mount Mary College, USA.
While most texts touch on knits, a text dedicated to knits would be adequate to build a complete project around. Working with and understanding a knit is very much different from woven. . .It would be nice to have a more simplified approach to working with knits, especially when working with beginners.
Topic is long overdue and very relevant. Knits are an integral part of student requirements in many courses. There is definitely a need for a textbook that covers this topic in depth. A spiral bound design makes sense for easy and useful reference. Overall, the author's approach is easy to follow and would help me to introduce knits in all classes.
This book offers a valuable insight into the complexities of working with stretch fabric for fashion garments. It is an ideal book for Knitwear students who regularly have to adapt pattern blocks in order to accommodate the varying degrees of stretch within their fabrics.
The book appears to be a thorough and comprehensive, covering all aspects of designing knit fabrics through patternmaking. The author has developed a knit patterning system that is unique.
