Corrector's Jake Waters returns in a new adventure. Much has changed over the past couple of years for Jake. He's been able to fit into a lifestyle he finds more to his liking, thanks to a friend in the FBI he can turn to when something that needs correcting develops. Of course the obligation works two ways, and occasionally Jake finds himself in a position where he needs to help out in return. Now married to Karin, with a young daughter, he lives in California where his wife's work has taken them. The last few months had been ideal, with no major incidents, his daughter passing the first year milestone, and his best friend Nate getting married. It was too good to last. The first unexpected event was an attempted kidnapping of his wife and daughter. Then it was an attempt on the life of his friend Zack. The note that arrived with demands were unlike anything Jake had ever encountered. Someone knew about him! They knew what he could do, and demanded he use his ability to help them. The request involved something Jake had never attempted before, and he wasn't certain it was even possible. The motivation for the request was actually reasonable, but the means of forcing his hand were not. Something had to be done to remove the threats. At first Jake had assumed that he could resolve the matter as easily as he had other matters, but as he becomes more involved, it is clear that the man behind the extortion has used his knowledge of what Jake can do to hide himself very effectively. Jake back-tracks farther than he's ever done before in an attempt to locate the man behind his troubles. Just when he thinks he has the matter well in hand, something happens that shows he's been wrong the entire time about what is involved. Suddenly, the problem of protecting his family and friends becomes much more difficult, and the demand being made of him takes on a far darker nature. The people who know about him and the organization they represent present a dilemma far more difficult than he'd imagined. Just trying to find them will put his life at risk, assuming he can do so at all.
