During any season the tracks of "yachties" can be traced all around the Pacific Ocean. Beyond Catalina is the story of one sailor who left his comfort zone behind in a quest for excitement and adventure at sea. He set out during the 1970s prior to the advent of the digital age, thereby being numbered amongst the last generation of "yachties" to rely on sextant, chronometer and complex navigation tables. By his own admission the author often finds he is "out of his depth". But then, on a 32-foot yacht nothing could have prepared him for a "freak wave breeding ground" or marauding "greybeards" from the Southern Ocean.

Born in England and raised in South Africa, the Author emigrated to the USA in 1968 where, for 26 years, he worked on satellites and spacecraft. It was during periods of unpaid leave of absence from his Aerospace Company that he undertook passages across the Pacific Ocean on-board his 32-foot cutter "Gulliver". He first wrote "Beyond Catalina" in 1983 after his second major voyage. The book has been revised several times since, and now updated in this modern version. During a short sailing career the Author accumulated over 16,000 miles of Pacific wanderings. He has now retired and lives with his family in New Zealand. "Beyond Catalina" was the first of his four published books - all currently available on Amazon Kindle.
