The Master Sergeant was respected and decorated, but calloused to troops and family. After three military conflicts, his marriage reflected the battlefields of Europe, Korea and Vietnam. Always on guard for crises, with no patience for foolishness his approval was so unattainable that “The Others” finally had to reject him. Phillip, must have been standing too close to The Master Sergeant in those days because the blast from that final conflict dislocated him and his rejected and flawed father. On the outside looking in everywhere they went, they began a traumatic surreal Spiritual adventure. Everyone touching their lives became obligated to a promise made to God. Phillip, who now believed he also was flawed, had as good an attitude as a tolerated kid could manage. And manage he must now that his reject of a father became a Christian for his son's sake. How could God be real if presented by a compromised agnostic, a hypocrite. The once heroic Master Sergeant had fallen. Everyone he befriended should be suspected, everyone who regretted this fallen hero should be considered an ally. Purchased in scenic Juarez Mexico, Phillip held on tightly to his only friend The Mexican Guitar. and Only his friend could bring adventure and comfort back into his life. Only his friend could open doors that no one else even knew about. Without much to look forward to, a tourist souvenir, a pretend musical instrument, became a journey of hope. Mexican Guitar is the way out every young boy ever hoped for.

About the Author:

David now lives in Central Texas but originally hailed from El Paso. He is a minister and gospel musician. At the completion of this story, he enjoys four children and eleven grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years and later drifted for years as a free lance musician in night clubs and concerts through the Southwest and Southern California. In 1976 Long Beach California David became a Christian. A dramatic experience began where he abandoned his dreams of musical independence along with his pursuit of stardom, and never seriously looked back. Instead he became a dedicated dishwasher, a skilled shovel operator, a determined welder and a fanatic of a carpenter. During these grateful days of servitude and hard work he received "the call" to minister God's word to the needy. After attending bible school on the G.I. bill he served the Lord as a pastor, an evangelist and counselor. Eventually becoming a licensed mental health therapist in Psychiatric Hospitals for over twenty years. He has seen the difference between a good life and a futile one. He has realized the healing that comes from the cross of Jesus Christ.
