"Of Wisdom and Valor" is the main content of the "Wisdom and Valor Treasury," which received a Silver Medal for Fantasy in the 2017 Florida Authors and Publishers Association President's Book Awards. Part II of The Windflower Saga epic romantic fantasy trilogy, "Of Wisdom and Valor" is set in a time not now and in a world not of our own. Generations have passed since the flourishing of the Kingdom of Kimbria under its first Golden Age. Corruption is rampant and the common people suffer under poor governance. Finally, they cry out for a monarch to replace the greedy Royal Council. Acting as Regent, the Council elects Lady Keridwen, the young Duchess of Ansgar, as the new Queen and orders her to marry a fearsome mercenary warlord, Lord Leofric. He fetches her from the remote convent where she’s lived for 20 years, but he takes her to his distant castle, not to the Palace so she can take the throne. The Royal Council has no intention that she will ever rule. What ensues is a heroic battle against greed, evil, and conspiracy, with the lives and freedom of the Kimbrian people hanging in the balance.

This epic saga is engrossed in vivid detail and flowing prose. Audiences will follow along with bated breath through a story, which spans across generations, as this book continues on with descendants of the Ansgar Kingdom. This second book certainly stands on its own as a complete and enthralling tale, yet fits in magnificently as an addition to the first book in the series. A story that takes the characters from Wastelands of Kimbria to royal garb is set in a world that is endlessly relatable to reality, it is easy for the reader to feel like he or she is a part of the story. This in turn means that the reader cannot help but be deeply invested in what happens to this family, and at times be worried for the characters. Aleksandra Layland's writing is continually heartfelt and vivid, while the story contained in Of Wisdom and Valor is gripping and complex. The author Layland immerses the reader in a beautifully woven tapestry of storytelling and character the moment one opens the book. The characters are believable in the way that they are shades of gray, allowing the argument of what makes someone truly good or evil, and what may lead to those circumstances. Due to the layered nature of the narrative in this often-harrowing tale, readers are bound to find new aspects previously missed with each read. This epic fantasy will exceed expectations of the genre in the best of ways. Reviewed by Divine Zape for Readers' Favorite - Five StarsOf Wisdom and Valor by Aleksandra Layland is the second part in the Windflower Saga, an epic fantasy that will allow readers to explore the exciting landscapes of the Wastelands of Kimbria with interesting characters. Aleksandra Layland has a knack for creating powerful plots around the themes of royal family, duty, justice, war, and political intrigue, and readers won't be surprised with this new entry in the saga. Action-packed and utterly enthralling, this one features Keridwen, a descendant of King Ansgar, who is raised far away in the Wastelands of Kimbria. When they bring her the news that she is heir to the throne, she is filled with both dread and excitement, but she can't imagine that the Royal Council has other plans for her, and that they are far worse than becoming the successor to the throne. Can she fight for what is rightfully hers?Delightfully crafted to take readers on an exciting adventure, Of Wisdom and Valor is a beautiful and hugely entertaining story. I enjoyed the way that the author builds the conflict. I enjoyed how she surprises the characters, too. It is hard to guess where the author leads with her plot, and characters who get caught up in a dilemma has become part of her signature. From the protagonist to the unwanted mercenary who claims her, readers will be keen on the drama, the intense action, and the powerful voice that tells the intriguing story. The book features impeccable writing, unprecedented twists, and a setting that will stay vividly in the reader's mind.
Reviewed by Maureen Dangarembizi for Readers' FavoriteOf Wisdom And Valor by Aleksandra Layland is a historical epic fantasy. The story starts when Leofric and his men make their way to a secluded convent in Whitehaven. The council has elected Lady Keridwen as queen, but they have also given her a husband. Lord Leofric of Kimbria is a battle-hardened warrior who has no use for a wife. Lady Keridwen is unlike any woman he has ever met and soon she has him under her spell. But there are forces fighting against them. There is treachery underfoot and enemies amongst those they should be able to trust. Just when they think they've overcome adversity, they discover another war coming and they must fight to maintain what they hold dear. Of Wisdom And Valor starts off a bit slowly with lots of descriptive narrative, but don't let that put you off. Aleksandra Layland is a great writer and authors a truly magical tale. This tale has so many layers that readers who enjoy the medieval and romance genres will find this book extremely enjoyable. Aleksandra Layland's characters and settings are amazing. I could see myself transported between the pages of this book. I loved Leofric and his humorous transition from warring bachelor to happily married man. I loved the romance that was just so sweet without the graphics. It was a truly unique reading experience that I hope to continue with the other books in this series. With several full-length novels and novellas in The Windflower Saga, I am guaranteed to enjoy a few months of great entertainment.

Of Wisdom and Valor: The Art of War, The Path of Peace is an epic fantasy adventure by author Aleksandra Layland. This is the second volume in The Windflower Saga, a romantic trilogy written for adults. Our central heroine is Lady Keridwen, a somewhat sheltered Duchess who has been protected from the corrupt Kingdom of Kimbria by spending her time in a convent. When she becomes the centre of a political coup designed to placate the revolting populace, however, Keridwen is thrown into a whole new world like nothing she's ever seen. The warmongering Lord Leofric would have her for his wife, but Keridwen resists the idea that there might be more than money involved in his intentions.
Aleksandra Layland creates a lavish and thought-provoking backdrop for her romantic story line, which makes Of Wisdom and Valor: The Art of War, The Path of Peace much more grounded and believable than your typical situational romance novel. Leofric and Keridwen are painted with many more than the expected colours for this genre, fleshed out as richly as the fantastical world Layland has created. I didn't require any information from the previous story to enjoy this one, as we arrive in a new generation right from the book's opening pages. The plot is constructed in a straightforward fashion and I felt that Keridwen in particular was true to herself throughout the novel, becoming a heroine who is vulnerable but also strong enough for readers to get behind. Recommended for readers who enjoy a realistic emotional journey.
