In escaping from Nassgrube, Moth, a young technician, is leaving his sole protection from the surface air. But leave he must, desperate to find out what happened to his father, Klaus, a scientist who disappeared in mysterious circumstances several years ago. Running in fear through the toxic landscape, he encounters a world of slavery and terrifying predators, crossing the path of a cloned woman called Jaala, who is following his father’s trail for reasons of her own. Deceived into an unnatural alliance, he strays upon a course that leads him ever closer to madness and destruction — and ever further from the greatest discovery of all ... Among You Secret Children is a grand tale of love transcending death, and of a hope transferred across the centuries; a tale of hauntedness.

About the Author:

Moth, or a form of him, had been with me for many years before I started the story. It was only later, whilst staying in Pushkar, India, that he came to me as someone with a fuller context, or world, around him, and leaping out of bed, I thought I saw it, and that at last I knew what I was doing. Jaala too had been in my mind for a while. I had always pictured her in a desert setting, timeless somehow, and it was not hard therefore to perceive her life as belonging to someone who lived in the future, perhaps even the distant future. Had my thoughts placed her in a more contemporary context, then perhaps the two characters would not have existed in the same world, for it always struck me that for them to co-exist, something of fabulous nature must happen. So — apart, they might have existed in our own time, or much closer to it; co-existing, they were responsible for sparking off events that landed the book in the fantasy aisle. There were just a few days to go before the turn of the millennium. Everything felt full of significance. The prospect of finally putting these characters into words seemed as easy and accomplishable as all the other plans I was aiming to put into place now that the world was moving on — and now that people, perhaps many people, were wanting to move on with it. But of course it was not to be that simple ... Read more at Jeff Kamen's website, www.jeffkamen.media

About the Author:

Among You Secret Children is the debut novel by Jeff Kamen. A graduate of Leeds University, UK, where he read English, Kamen lives and works in what he refers to as the growing London sprawl. On the book’s message he says, ‘At heart, it’s about what happens when worlds that are very different are brought together - or in this case, conflicting obsessions. The book explores what is born in such circumstances, and what must die.’ He claims the next step might be harder still. ‘I’m aware that if I don’t promote my work, no one else will,’ he says, ‘and I understand marketing in a general sense. But it’s one more item of many to juggle with these days. And after spending so much time picking over words, and finding a voice to put them into, I find it tricky to change pitch and tune into such a crowded marketplace. It’s like Jaala’s voices in the book: you can spend your entire life wondering which one’s your own, and which will anyone listen to.’ Among You Secret Children is available in various e-formats and now in paperback.
