Arisa is a native of Indianapolis, but has close ties to Memphis, Tennessee. She has been writing stories, plays, and poetry almost as long as she's been able to read, and aspires to get a MFA in Creative Writing as well as a degree in Secondary Education. Following college, she wants to teach in urban schools around the greater Indianapolis area. Her favorite movies include Mi Vida Loca, Poetic Justice, and Belly; her favorite rappers (in no order) are Joey Bada$$, Big K.R.I.T., Outkast, Childish Gambino, and Nas; and her greatest inspirations are Coe Booth, Kalisha Buckhanon, and Toni Morrison. Arisa cites her inspiration to write as a dedication to diversity in literature, which she realized there was a lack of in 7th grade reading class with Mrs. Brown, who gave her a diverse set of books for the first time. Las Altas is the sequel to her 2014 debut novel, South Belly.
