9781511639200: ME and CHIEF (Sitting Bull)

This story recounts the last 20 years of Sitting Bull’s life—told by his Horse, Blackie. Based on true events, this historical novel covers the years from 1870 until he was killed in 1890. During these years as Chief and Holy Man of the Lakota Sioux, Sitting Bull fought for, advised, counseled and represented his people, trying to enable them to live free on the northern plains as they had always done, all while the U.S. government declared them “hostiles” and sent the Army to round them up and contain them to living on designated reservations. Sitting Bull and Blackie were involved in the Battle on the Rosebud, present during Custer’s defeat, fled to Canada, surrendered to U.S. military, took part in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West shows, and raised horses from his home on the Grand River in South Dakota until his untimely murder.

About the Author:

Patricia Probert Gott is a retired businesswoman and author of seventeen books. Her adventures have taken her to five continents, twelve countries and forty-seven states, from several horse pack trips in the American West, weeklong horseback riding adventures in Australia and Hungary, an exciting horseback excursion in Egypt, and a ten-day horse safari in South Africa, to rafting down the Grand Canyon, volunteering to Tanzania, walking on the Great Wall of China and visiting the Potala Palace in Tibet. For several summers she was a ranch wrangler and trail guide outside Cody, Wyoming, Ms Gott lives in Maine and owns an Arabian horse that she raised, trained, and trail rides frequently. She began riding at the age of eight, and she has owned, raised and trained horses ever since, accounting for her knowledge and experience with horses as detailed in her cowgirl books and horse stories.
