The Trustworthy Ark: The Prayers of the Prophet

9781511693226: The Trustworthy Ark: The Prayers of the Prophet

In this sacred tradition, what is striking is the love that God holds for His servant as a result of the performance of voluntary prayers (Nawafil). Mark well that God did not say that He will bestow His love upon His servant at the performance of the ordained acts of worship, but rather, the love of God is acquired in the perseverance of supererogatory worship. For there is a fundamental difference in the above saying, between: “My servant draws not near anything more loved by me than the religious duties I have enjoined upon him”, the other phrase: “...and My servant continues to draw near Me with voluntary prayers until I love him.” The first clause implements the love of God toward that thing which He had ordained; and the second clause posits the love of God with the performer of that thing which God had ordained.
