In addition to her writing, Re has had a varied and interesting life, spanning the Eastern U.S. from the Caribbean to New England and also Europe. She served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and later met her husband Matthew Keany, (a veteran of the World War II Air Force), while they were both attending Boston University under the G. I. Bill. They currently live in Dedham, Massachusetts. Everywhere Janet has applied her fine artistic hand, she has found success. She is an award winning jewelry designer, having studied both in Boston and Florence, Italy with the renowned Peruzzi & Sons. Her silver and gold work has been featured in Harper’s Bazaar, and has repeatedly won awards and commissions in Florida, Boston and Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, where she was commissioned to execute a Chain of Office for the first-elected Governor of those islands. Janet is also a pianist who often played publicly while living in St. Thomas, She generously volunteered to entertain at many military events held there, including those for the benefit of the newly formed U.S. Navy SEAL teams. She has dedicated this volume in part to the SEALs and the U.S. Navy Underwater Demolition Teams (U.D.T.) with particular emphasis on her poem entitled “Frogman Drowns Off Grecian Coast. “ Janet’s artistry has also brought her in contact with many of the interesting people of our time. Among those who have crossed her path are Senator John Kerry (later Secretary of State), Admiral John McCain II and his son John McCain III (later Senator), Governor Melvin Evans and wife Phyllis (1st elected governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands). Arthur Fiedler, of the Boston Pops who conducted when she was official accompanist for the Coast Guard’s SPAR chorus, performing at Boston’s renowned Hatch Shell. Kenneth D. Clark, champion of school desegregation. Captain of the SEAL Team, Lt. Larry Bailey, and Richard (Rogue Warrior) Marcinko, when he was an enlisted SEAL.
