Kaylea Butler attends the Principia Upper School in St. Louis, Missouri, and met the founders of The Simunye Project when they came to work at her school. She went on her Simunye trip in 2015, inspired to go after participating in a school service trip to the Dominican Republic. She decided to write this book as a future fundraiser for Simunye. Butler grew up in Arizona and now lives in Texas.
