Silence

Saying "I love you"
does not come easy to me.
I'd rather read into your heart 
and place my words inside, 
like in a poem - divine grails 
filled with love, that call your name.

I only am
What you see,
Not hiding
Any part of me.

My words could only
be true,
the beauty in them
is YOU.

An insight into the beauty and the joy of the world must come like the rainbow, after a loud longing and our powerless struggle to quiet it down, after a cry that hides deep down and seems to take over our life. 

There may be no words that could ever paint the depth of these feelings, there may be no words that could ever comfort us the way a loved one's embrace would. I only dare to ask the questions:

A Kind of Dialogue 

I asked myself 
'Who are you 
and what you do 
in my heart?' 

My answer was 
'I love you, 
we're not really apart.' 

'And how come 
we move 
at a different pace?' 

'We are both 
in one place, 
we're all grace.' 

My attempt to bring a warm embrace from within ourselves comes with the help of the parabolic teachings from an old book that many people call new, many people hide in the drawer of hotel rooms or use it to swear the truth and nothing but the truth. This is one of the books that sits at the root of every other book we've read, believe it or not, it's not about religion, it helped me get to the truth within myself: that there is no God out there, He is the love in our heart:

'If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. 

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. 

But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will 93 be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 

When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. '

About the Author:

Oana Andrei was born in Bārlad, Romania, during the communist regime, when practising religion was banned. She attended church with her great-grandmother, who raised her until the age of twelve. She studied mathematics and information technology but was also a passionate reader and started to write from a young age and published many poetry books in Romania. 
Oana Andrei continues her career in an analytical field while writing poetry is always her meditation, her comfort zone.
'A Kind of Insight' is the author's way of sharing with us some of the answers she'd been searching for when her family was going through very difficult times far away from home, in Canada.
