Synopsis
Durland Prothero is not his real name – he can no longer remember the name he was given at birth. About the Author
B.J. Winfrey is an American author and teacher, as well as an award-winning playwright, film director, screenwriter, and actor. While studying at Emory University, he cofounded AHANA Artists Collective—a student-run arts organization showcasing the works of people of color—and served for two years as the Artistic Director of AHANA Theater, where he wrote and directed three award-winning plays before graduating. He was also inducted into the National Collegiate Theater Honor Society, and served as the Vice President of the Emory chapter. After graduating with a dual degree in Psychology and Theater and Film Studies, he turned his attention to film, directing music videos for artists in the burgeoning Atlanta rap scene, as well as writing and directing short films of his own. In 2004, he added professional acting to his resume, and appeared in productions such as Tyler Perry’s ‘The Haves and the Have Nots’, ‘Good Eats with Alton Brown’, ‘Army Wives’, ‘Powers’, 'Alvin and the Chipmunks 4' and ‘Sabotage’ starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. He also began acting for Nollywood, the film industry of West Africa. It wasn't long before he also began writing and directing films in this industry as well. In 2013, the film ‘One Night in Vegas’, which he wrote, won the Nollywood and African Film Critics Award (also known as the African Oscar) for ‘Best Film’, and the following year, he won another African Oscar for his short film ‘Five’. ‘The Final Lesson’ marks his first completed novel, and like his previous work, it is tied to a movie. At the same time he wrote this novel, he produced a fifteen-minute teaser for a feature film based on this story and the succeeding volumes. He enjoys working out, traveling, outdoor concerts, sipping drinks on a patio with a nice breeze, trying new recipes, and telling horrible jokes.
