Paul Thomas appears to have everything a man could want: a great job teaching at the college level, stability, and a blossoming relationship with a beautiful young woman. Underneath the facade is a tragic past. Paul’s father had been killed in the military, followed by his mother’s death, for which he is responsible. Worst of all is the unrelenting hatred directed at him by his brother, his only remaining family. After the repeated tragedies, Sam chooses to isolate himself until he realizes that he exists in a prison of his own making. To break his personal stalemate and get back at his brother, he decides to kidnap Cora, the woman Paul loves. The relationship between brothers becomes increasingly volatile when Cora almost dies during an escape attempt. The roles of hero and villain become increasingly blurred as both men strive in desperate attempts to move beyond their tormented pasts. The backdrop of the Rocky Mountains of Northern Montana provides the setting for their ultimate confrontation. “Tragedy, redemption, romance — Headwaters has what it takes to become the next classic saga.”—Nicole J. Persun, Gold Winner of ForeWord Magazine’s Book of the Year Award THE RELENTLESS RIVER SERIES Headwaters is the first book in a series of eight contemporary novels centered in Northern Montana, including Glacier National Park and the neighboring Blackfeet Nation. While battling evil influences and physical danger, the characters in this series must eventually face past events that have influenced their life trajectories. Above all, life should allow for second chances. http://www.nancyleonard.net

One day, after retiring and having some time on my hands, I sat down to record an idea for the novel that I never intended to write. In fact, writing a book, especially a piece of fiction, had never crossed my mind ... maybe a short story in college years. But the idea was so persistent, like a recurring song lyric rattling around in my head, that I felt compelled to jot it down. I expected it would take a half hour, max. Two years later, and first drafts of the novel and three sequels completed, I took a deep breath. The story had taken on a life of it’s own and the characters had become so real that their stories ached to be told. The Relentless River Series was born. The name, Relentless River, represents the one–way flow of our lives, constantly impacted by the inflow and mingling of other waters, altering our life’s journey. Now, another two years later, and having completed eight of the series, I am focusing on getting the series out to be read. It’s not my fault. Minor characters took on a life of their own; I loved them, ached with them, pushed them on, and told their stories, too. And I couldn’t let my original characters die. They are carried on, throughout all the stories, evolving all the while. Finally, I feel I can let them and myself take a breather. Further updates for the series can be found on my website www.nancyleonard.net.
