In this book, I describe a useful backlighting source and apparatus for illuminating and photographing translucent subjects, such as flowers, feathers, and leaves by transmitted light photography. Transmitted light photography is the technique of photographing a translucent subject from light that passes through it, rather than photographing the subject from light that is reflected or emitted, as we normally see a subject. In my book I show that transmitted light photography: (1) enhances the dramatic mode of a subject, (2) produces a soft ethereal glow from apparent interior lighting, (3) provides a visual perception of extended depth-of-field, and (4) shows a dependence on colored filters to show exciting internal features
