Jane Sarles grew up in the Southern Indiana area. She graduated from New Albany High School and received a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Indiana University Bloomington. Jane spent 23 years as a librarian in academic, public, and school libraries, retiring from the Lanesville, Indiana school system in 1992. After retirement, Jane began volunteer work with the town of Clarksville, helped found the Clarksville Historical Society, and served as its president for 15 years. She also was a columnist for the Jeffersonville Evening News, authoring the column, “Looking Back” for 10 years. In 2001, she published her first book, Clarksville, Indiana and has since written three books on local history. She continues her history work and is currently involved in a group that plans to find, mark, and educate the public about the Buffalo Trace.
