Thirty-six-year-old David Whitstone, disgraced former Federal Revenue Agent in Memphis, is now a farmer in Mississippi, where he has managed to light up his house against the odds, electricity not yet established in his rural area. He and his father, influential, wealthy, and unapproachable, mutually avoid the open secret of his paternity. Rains have brought dangerous flooding, and David now finds himself in a position he may have desired for some time, and been a party in creating its necessity - that of savior to his isolated neighbor, Glory Holding, whose family lost the farm that he snapped up for back taxes ten years ago. He's unaware that as a girl she secretly thought of him as a shining knight in a magic electric house, and watched his every move with his wife, who died along with their son, in childbirth. But now, at twenty-one, Glory can't help begrudging that he has what should be her land, as well as resenting the help she and her grandmother accepted from him as she grew up. She and her two-year-old son and baby daughter have been seemingly abandoned by her husband, Henry, who has made a financial arrangement, unknown to her, with David. Events conspire to out David and Glory's buried desires for all the community to suspect, if not see. It's November, 1941, and sweeping changes are on the horizon from TVA for their power-less community, with war against Germany looming.  When Henry returns after escaping jail for a crime against a naturalized German citizen, passion, mistrust and betrayals consume David, Glory, and Henry. But the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor and the resulting declaration of war gives each of them one chance for redemption.

About the Author:

Ms. McKinney's goal is to write the type novel she loves to read, literary commercial, with characters she can't forget in an intense love story, and a plot twist or two that plays with her mind. THE ELECTRIC HOUSE is her third. Her first was THE LADIES OF SHALLOT in 2013, and her second, BOUND FOR EBENEZER, was released in 2014. After reading some of the world's great books and teaching a few of them to high school students in Mississippi and Tennessee, Ms. McKinney decided to write about some of the characters she had been nurturing in her imagination. She enrolled in creative writing and began her first novel. These days she substitute teaches in elementary school – no high school please, although she helps coach the local high school tennis team, still "reads 'til her eyes bleed," can't type fast enough to get all her characters in their stories, and loves nothing more than time with family and friends.
