Heroines of the Dark is a love story. Much more than that, however, it is a thought-provoking social comment on the appalling abuse of women and children by the depraved, profit-centred minds which exploit for pure financial gain before discarding them, like used rag dolls, into the gutter ... or the grave.
This is the fictional story of a wealthy young man and his love for a teenage woman - born into slavery, a victim of her own father's treachery and abuse - and his fight to free her and her mother from a network of criminals involved in drugs, pornography, paedophilia and prostitution: a thriller in which two close friends - one a successful author, the other a fast-rising detective police captain - join forces to fight against the horror they have stumbled upon.
Deeply passionate and often shocking, this is a fact-based, powerfully emotive drama of many contrasts which pits love against hate, kindness against cruelty and morality against barbarity - in a panoply of action which carries the reader from the sordid world of drug dealing and child abduction, on the dark streets of northern England, to the glittering cities and mountainous seascapes of South Africa, the romance of Paris, and the majesty of Switzerland.
It is a tale to be laughed with and wept over, angered by and provoked, enjoyed and savoured for the power of this struggle against evil.
