About the Author Hector Hugh Munro (1870 – 1916), known by the pen names Saki or H. H. Munro, was a British writer whose witty stories satirized Edwardian society. He is sometimes compared to O. Henry and his influences include Oscar Wilde, Lewis Carroll and Rudyard Kipling. His own writing influenced A. A. Milne, Noël Coward and P. G. Wodehouse. He wrote a play, "The Watched Pot", in collaboration with Charles Maude and a historical study, "The Rise of the Russian Empire", the only book published under his own name. "When William Came", subtitled "A Story of London Under the Hohenzollerns" is a fantasy about a future German invasion and occupation of Britain.
