Bart Northcote vigorously defies stereotypes. He is a Los Angeles private detective who also writes books that are loosely disguised as fiction. He has a keen sense of making money from every job, and has a voracious appetite for art. Here he is involved in tracking down the whereabouts of a fabulous antiquity, called the Ishtar Cup, which has been smuggled out of Iraq after the Gulf War. The problem is that his client, who refuses to giver her real name, wants Bart to follow one of her co-conspirators to make sure they know that they are being watched. Bart suspects he is being played, but he has no idea why.

Review:

5 Stars
Eiland Jr has created a very interesting and compelling character who will certainly win over the hearts of readers of detective novels. Bartram Northcote is a very intelligent man, a writer and an avid reader of detective fiction, a character who always seems to have something held up his sleeve. The story is told in the first person narrative and in a tone that immediately draws the reader in. Eiland Jr has skillfully mastered the art of developing a strong connection between readers and his characters, a connection that is born from a skillful blend of elements --mastery of the art of story-telling, the finesse of his humor, and the powerful use of plot elements like suspense. The story is fast without leaving out those details that embellish the plot. Fans of Lee Child will certainly be smitten by The Ishtar Cup. This book is a winner, a highly recommended book for anyone looking for a fun read.
San Diego Book Review

5 stars
The detective, Bart Northcote, cuts an interesting figure who frankly admits to enjoying working strictly for money and expresses his opinions on things honestly and without guilt. The element of the mystery woman makes for a refreshing change from your run-of-the-mill client and creates an aura of mystery around the real motives behind this search. The writing style is quite engaging and at times humorous. Readers who enjoy mysterieswill enjoy this book!

5 stars
There is so much to like about this book. There's the obvious mystery inherent in the Ishtar Cup's genesis and astronomical value. There's the very real danger to Bart and Vanessa as they try to recover the reverberent relic.
And, surprisingly, there's the deeply hidden but terribly telling character trait regarding one major character -- not revealed until the very end. It's a suitable wrap-up to a well-told tale.
Publishers Daily Reviews

5 Stars
Blending modernity with noir qualities makes this a fascinating read, honoring the traditions of the genre, but framing the life of thisunique PI in more updated terms. It's this juxtaposition that makes thenovel such a fresh and exciting read. The Ishtar Cup is a thrilling novel with a twist ending that most readers won't see coming. The Ishtar Cup was Grand Prize winner in the 2016 SPR Book Awards.
