Our Mighty Musicians classes, geared toward 5- and 6-year-olds, allow children to have a positive and fun introduction to the world of music-making and give them a great start in learning to play the piano. Children in our Mighty Musicians music classes will experience and learn about music through listening, singing, movement and play, and will also use their new found knowledge to work on their basic piano skills. Students will also learn about the great composers and their music, and have the opportunity to do some composing themselves! This class is appropriate for children who have taken the Early Explorers class, have had some piano or music experience, or for those who may not have had a class in the past but are eager to learn and get a jump-start into music! In this lesson plan, students learn that music can tell a story! They explore different musical elements used to create a musical story, including improvising the musical elements on the piano and creating their own musical stories! Students are introduced to Edvard Grieg, and will learn about keyboard topography and piano technique basics. Each of our books includes a lesson plan for one one-hour class. Included in each are a teacher’s guide, lesson materials and resources, sheet music, and several take-home materials which may be copied for students to take home. Lesson plans may be used together to create week-long or once per week piano camps. For more information, please visit www.theplayfulpiano.com.

Jennifer Boster has been joyfully making music at the piano since she was a young child. She also loves teaching young-at-heart students of all ages, and particularly enjoys helping adult pianists develop their technique and expression in their playing.
