This is the story of Mary Slade and her husband, Clint, who were cattle ranchers in western New Mexico and eastern Arizona. They were hard-working folk who carved a good living out of some very rugged land. They worked side-by-side tending cattle, cutting and bailing their hay, and pulling calves. Ranching basically equates to a lot of very long days and a lot of hard work. Clint and Mary spent a lot of time on horseback, moving their herd from their winter range to their high-mountain summer range, up from 7,000 feet to over 9,300 feet elevation. Come go with Mary in her move as a five-year-old girl from Big Bend country in Texas to New Mexico and then on to Arizona. Experience life from her young perspective as she meets her future husband at age five and the elopes with him at age 15. As you read her story you’ll discover the impact of her Christian faith on her life and those around her. Her faith was a powerful force when she faced the great trials of life. Mary’s faith and joy in the Lord are contagious, affecting family and friends, as she confronts a heart-rending attack on Clint. In 2002 Clint was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. By 2006 the full force of this dreaded disease rocked their world and changed their lives forever. Her story will be a help and a blessing to all who journey with Mary through the ups and downs of her life as a rancher, wife and mother, and care giver. You too can find her faith and and receive the courage to get through all the storms of your own life.
