Tripp Donovan's father, Troy Donovan, is the Sheriff of Stockdale, Kansas. Tripp wishes he was anyone else's kid other than the Sheriff. His schoolmates accuse him of snitching on them whenever they are caught doing anything from taking a piece of penny candy to a fight on the playground. His father also seems to be aware of everything he does and he gets away with nothing. Kansas at this period of time, in the late 1800s, is till considered part of the "Wild West" and offers the kids many opportunities for adventure and trouble. Whether it is just Tripp and his best friend, Carson Ballin, or all their friends, along with their dogs and horses, it seems that the adventures and trouble they get into never ends.
