9781519539489: No Justice in Jamaica: How the Jamaican Judicial System Destroyed My Life and My Business - and How It Can Happen to You (black and white interior)

This is the story of the travels and travails of an honest business man and his wife through the complex, inefficient and often times corrupt Jamaican Judicial System as they seek equitable redress against the machinations of venal and fraudulent business partners. The author details in graphic reality the administrative incompetence built into our Courts Systems, the institutional negligence of a crumbling financial structure and the outright corruption of the Professionals in the system, all of which combine to prevent honest Petitioners to the Court from obtaining Justice, even Petitioners with the ability to pay for legal representation. The author’s thesis that the society is corrupt and that the weaknesses of the Judicial System support that corruption is underpinned with references and extracts from letters to the Press and media articles. The book is a damning indictment on a failed judicial institution and in a Society which is failing its citizens politically and administratively.

About the Author:

Dwight Clacken was born in Kingston Jamaica in 1947. He enjoyed a colorful childhood that was dotted by typical boyhood mischief and bravado but who was also kept in line by strong familial community bond where the entire village took responsibility for each other's welfare. The son of upright middle class parents, Dwight was influenced by their religious values which shaped his perception of ethics, justice and fairness. Even as a student he was quick to identify the mistreatment of others and was fearless in rejecting it. A businessman by profession, he has vast experience working in different fields as his career began in his youth. As an adult he worked long hours as he was passionate about building his dream business, EML. Dwight is enthusiastic about nation building, justice and fighting the cause of the poor and the oppressed. He is motivated to write this novel having witnessed the rise and fall of successive governments, the brunt of their failures on the ambitions of a fledgling country and also the depreciation of our values over time. His own struggles in the treacherous justice system vividly juxtapose the Jamaica of his boyhood idyllic perception and the stark and brutish reality that now jeers him. He has great concern that Jamaica his island home is being decimated by the greed and selfishness of politicians and professionals. Where did the love, decency and integrity go? Where have these cold, greedy and cynical people come from? Dwight fears that the values and attitudes that were once the pride and selling point of Jamaica have been eroded by corruption and may be irreversible if there is no urgent collective will and courage to take the stand necessary to bring about change. Dwight is married to his beautiful and supportive wife Lynne. They share five children.
