An ancient snake-demon lies trapped behind the stone walls of an Incan prison; for centuries demanding blood sacrifices and scheming to escape. Then it discovers a pathway into the world of men, forging itself into a malevolent and cursed 357 Colt Python gun, and making itself capable of giving misery and bringing death to all who touch it. Through decades it torments, decimates, the lives of the unfortunate people it comes into contact with until a married couple, Emily and Sam Walters, have enough love and faith–and the help of a mysterious priest who’s much more than he appears to be–to fight against and destroy it forever...and to finally send it back to hell where it belongs. (Originally a Leisure mass market paperback titled Blood Forge.)

From the Author:

The Story Behind BLOOD FORGED (Once titled BloodForge)
Backstory Essay

1985. I'd just published my second paperback novel, The Heart of the Rose, an historical bodice ripper (rememberthose?) about a suspected witch in 15th century England amidst the War of theRoses political intrigues, with Leisure Books of Dorchester Publishing and myeditor there asked me if I had another novel to show them yet.
It just so happened that, yes, I'd been working on a third novel; anotherromantic horror similar to my first book with them, Evil Stalks the Night(which after 32 years I've also brought out again) I was tentatively calling WithThis Gun. The story centered around a scandalous love triangle/murderbetween police officers in my town where the husband of one woman killedanother man, his best friend, over his wife...which they both loved. I'd use apossessed gun as a device to explain the killings the gun would be responsiblefor. Now I wasn't exactly a lover of guns, but I was married to a cop. Gunswere part of our lives. Always in the back of my mind was what I'd say topeople who didn't like the idea of me writing about a gun or hated guns: Itisn't a gun that kills people...it's the person using the gun. And that istrue even to this day, I believe; even with the mass murders.
In this book, I gave an even better motivation. The gun made people killbecause it was evil. This theme was what made it a supernaturalstory. A Colt Python would be possessed by an ancient demon; that the weaponhad been forged from tainted iron or metal from the bowels of the earthcenturies ago connected to that ancient demon-god. So the title Leisureeventually came up with was: Blood Forge (though I begged the editor tocall it With This Gun or at least, Blood Forged, which made more sense, but no the publisher was determined to call it Blood Forge and in those daysthe author didn't have any say so on that or the cover; now as I republished itin 2015 I finally gave it the title it should have had all along: BloodForged).
Anyway, in the book I'd follow that gun after its creation from unfortunatehuman to human as it made people crazy and murderous; created havoc ineveryone's lives it touched. Until two people deeply in love have faith thatthey can defeat it...with the help of a mysterious priest (who may or may notbe a priest at all). There are ways to get rid of a demon, no matter how strongit is.
That plot about following a gun on its deadly rampage has been used many timessince in television shows and stories, but I'd began thinking about the book asearly as 1983, so, perhaps, I was the first. Who knows?
Which brings me now to what happened after I turned the book in to thepublisher. My editor for my first two books, Jane Thornton, read it and refusedto be its editor. Turned it down flat, saying she despised guns. Theykilled people. Guns bad. They scared her. She wouldn't edit such astory, sorry.
I don't remember exactly what happened after that. It was a long time ago. Ithink either Jane Thornton left Leisure or she gave the book to another editor,a man called John Littel.
Anyway, he liked the book, gun or no gun, and they offered me a contract on itanyway. I was thrilled. Wasn't thrilled with the title, as I said, though, andI wasn't impressed with the cover, embossed or not. Too dark. A snake coilingaround the barrel of a menacing gun on a black background. Along with thetitle, I felt it didn't portray what the book was entirely about. The novel wasa love story, a survival against great odds, a parable of faith, tale. A storyof a man's fight with alcoholism and how his wife's love helps him beat theinsidious influence of the alcohol as well as the gun. It was about cops, theirlives and their families. But, as with the title, I had no choice on the coverand had to take what they gave me. That's just the way it was back then. Istill feel that's part of the reason the book never did well in its firstincarnation and that is why I've changed it. But back then I was still anunknown writer and when that's the case I've found that the cover and title-andhow compelling they are-makes a difference in the sales. And to this day thathasn't changed either.
At this point, I must admit, after having just finished rewriting it...it was avery dark book written at a very dark time of my life.  The darkest, Ithink, of all my books. I had gone through a divorce, remarriage and wasjuggling a full time job and a family. Trying to write at night. It wasactually difficult for me to relive most of it. When I'd originally wrote it Iwas still in that early part of my career, still young without enough lifeexperience, where I'd embed what I'd lived through and saw around me into mystories. I didn't have the maturity yet to write anything too layered, thoughin the later rewrites I tried to fix that.
Anyway, the book came out in 1989 and didn't do as well as my first two books.I noticed that the publisher turned cool towards me after that and, seeing theway the wind was blowing, I went on to get an agent and she helped me jump upanother rung of the ladder when she sold my next four books to a biggerpublisher, Zebra Books (Kensington Publishing). I left Leisure behind; and mythree books there went out of print long ago.
But now, 26 years later I've brought out the book once again with the revisedname Blood Forged...in eBook, paperback and Audible audio book. I lovethe cover this time. My fantastic cover artist, Dawne Dominique, who has doneall my new covers, did this one, too. It's stunning.
So that's the story of Blood Forged.Originally my third published novel. It, along with my older novels, 2 novellasand various short stories -22 novels in all- are finally all out again; even myfirst published novel from 1984, Evil Stalks the Night. And nowmy forty-four year writing career has come full circle. It's amazing. Iguess a book never dies, huh? I guess not.

About the Author:

About Kathryn Meyer Griffith... Since childhood I’ve been an artist and worked as a graphic designer in the corporate world and for newspapers for twenty-three years before I quit to write full time. But I’d already begun writing novels at 21, over forty-four years ago now, and have had twenty-three (ten romantic horror, two horror novels, two romantic SF horror, one romantic suspense, one romantic time travel, one historical romance, two thrillers, and four murder mysteries) previous novels, two novellas and twelve short stories published from Zebra Books, Leisure Books, Avalon Books, The Wild Rose Press, Damnation Books/Eternal Press; and I’ve self-published my last ten novels with Amazon Kindle Direct and my Dinosaur Lake novels and Spookie Town Mysteries (Scraps of Paper, All Things Slip Away and Ghosts Beneath Us) are my best-sellers. I’ve been married to Russell for thirty-seven years; have a son and two grandchildren and I live in a small quaint town in Illinois, which is right across the JB Bridge from St. Louis, Mo. We have a quirky cat, Sasha, and the three of us live happily in an old house in the heart of town. Though I’ve been an artist, and a folk/classic rock singer in my youth with my brother Jim, writing has always been my greatest passion, my butterfly stage, and I’ll probably write stories until the day I die...or until my memory goes. 2012 EPIC EBOOK AWARDS *Finalist* for her horror novel The Last Vampire ~ 2014 EPIC EBOOK AWARDS * Finalist * for her thriller novel Dinosaur Lake.
