Successful Newport Beach attorney Mike Girardi is shaken from his fast-paced, high-flying lifestyle when he takes over the caseload of his law partner and mentor Jack Tremont, who suffers a stroke under mysterious circumstances. To his alarm, Girardi discovers unexplained gaps in the files of a multimillion dollar lawsuit against the government that Tremont had spearheaded.
Racing against time, Girardi embarks on a quest for the truth that leads him into a world of unscrupulous lawyers, shady corporations, shadowy consultants, and a convent of nuns. With the reluctant assistance of his best friend, who is a federal judge, and a former associate who abruptly left law practice, Girardi must confront basic questions of right and wrong, and overcome threats to his reputation, his law practice, and his life. What will the evidence reveal about Girardi’s partner? And what surprises will Girardi learn about life—and love?
