Its object was, primarily, to ascertain the general geological fea tures of the State, thus gaining an insight into its probable mineral resources, also and, at the same time, to make such observations con cerning its topographical, agricultural and botanical features as time and opportunity permitted, and the publication of which would serve to make the advantages offered by the State to immigrants more generally known.
