This book is an invaluable guide to the lineage of British furniture-making techniques throughout history, with an emphasis on the evolution of the cabinet-maker. Focusing on the period from the 16th to 19th century, the author presents new research and evidence as to the relationships between Britainās most revered craftsmen. It offers a detailed exploration of styles, influences, characteristics, and techniques, with special attention devoted to Grinling Gibbons, the Seddon family, and upholstery. Providing a timeline of development, this book gives a glimpse into the broader aspects of this often-celebrated era and examines the influence of trends both above and below the European mainland.
