In this memoir the author describes, in Greek, the history of his family from its origins in Asia Minor, and his own life as a student in Greece and Canada, followed by a career as a research chemist in the US. Several vignettes from this experiences in Greece and in the New World serve to illuminate the cultural differences between the two worlds.

The author was born in Piraeus, Greece, in 1935. After obtaining a B.Sc. in chemistry from the university of Athens and serving in the Greek army, he spent four and a half years in Vancouver, Canada, where he earned his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from UBC. In 1965 he settled in the US, where he worked for 33 years as a researcher in Allied Chemical and its successor companies. Since his retirement in 1998 he lives with his wife in Ringwood, NJ.
