Why I wrote this book
I wanted to write a list of ourfavorite places on Hawai`i Island for a long time. Friends who planned to visitThe Big Island knew we had been going there for many years and asked for adviceon where to go, what to see and where to eat. Our answers have always beenpretty much piecemeal and raggedly incomplete. I don't know if anyone everfound anything.
Finally, I had an incentive toplace keyboard under hand and share those places we had found over and over tobe unique, delightful and interesting. This summer (2011) my brother and hiswife will visit Hawai`i Island. They are planning to stay in Kona, buthopefully will venture out of the city and go north to see what the north endof the island offers. If not, then you have a chance to benefit by this effort, and revel in their loss. So this is for Bob and for all the others who wantjust a little more out of their Hawaiian experience than some fun in the sun.
Paul Clark was born at Fort Jackson, South Carolina in 1943, and grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, mostly in Oak Park. He received a BS degree from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. After college, he married Gretchen Muehlberg and proceeded to serve four years in the United States Marine Corps. Leaving the Corps as a Captain after one tour in Vietnam, they moved to Minnesota where Paul started a carrier at 3M. During 32 years with the company, he held a variety of positions in product marketing and business management. Gretchen and Paul have two sons, eight grandchildren and are now retired in Scandia, Minnesota. In addition to several volunteer activities, Paul enjoys writing, gardening, genealogy/family history, photography and travel.
