The Weapons of Mystery

9781537084770: The Weapons of Mystery

Weapons of Mystery is a singularly powerful story of occult influences and of their exertion for evil purposes. Like all Mr. Hocking's novels, Weapons of Mystery has an underlying religious and moral purpose, but merely as a story, and quite apart from the purpose which was in the mind of the author, the tale has a curious fascination for the reader. The cleverly conceived plot, and the strange experience of the hero and heroine make Weapons of Mystery a story which is not easy to put down when once commenced.

Mr. Hocking's novels have been (by the Spectator) compared to Baring-Gould's, and by other journals to those of Thomas Hardy, Hall Caine, and Stanley Weyman, but they are, one and all, stamped with striking and original individuality. Bold in conception, strenuously high and earnest in purpose, daring in thought, picturesque and lifelike in description, it is not to be wondered at that r. Hocking's novels are eagerly awaited by a great and ever-increasing public.

"In 'The Weapons of Mystery,' Mr. Joseph Hocking illustrates the dangers of hypnotism and other dreadful powers, some of which are decidedly occult, with a fearless determination to thrill the imaginative and credulous reader. His success, we think, should be complete." -The Saturday Review of Politics, Literature, Science and Art

"Mr. Joseph Hocking's easy style of narrative does not soon tire." --The Weekly Sun

"A writer who has never penned a dull page." -The British Weekly

"This is art of no common order." -The Glasgow Herald

"It is a foregone conclusion that Mr. Hocking will always have a good story to tell." -T. P.'s Weekly
