Barbara is a successful writer who lives in a large London house. She may seem to have it all, but in reality her names don't appear on her books. Her partner Toby has manipulated her to believe that he is the important one, and his name dominates her writing, even now while he is away seeking excitement and adventure elsewhere. Barbara continues to write e-mails to Toby, inspired by the fact that he replied to her after copious attempts to contact him a short while ago. He is away on an island, but she knows that the mainland is not too far away and wonders why his contact has been so limited. She has been through a roller coaster ride of emotions already, and she feels the need to confront some of her inner feelings that she has suffocated over the years. Her e-mails are confessional and self- revelatory, and she explores issues such as womanhood, history and her feelings of identity as she writes more and more e-mails. Barbara's life begins to change as she starts to tap into her inner power. Paradoxically Toby's silence is making her speak from her heart. Her revelations create a new path for her, through which she is able to explore her own individuality and her spiritual core. Barbara is a modern day heroine who had been turned into a woman who was trapped within her own narrative, due to her lack of assertiveness over her dominant partner. Finally, she is breaking free of the chain mail that has surrounded her, and finding her own voice. Follow her journey through which she gradually feels empowered and energised by her own self- realisations...
