This collection of short stories can best be described as a contemporary Nigerian response to the French realists who, in inspired prose painted the lives of nineteenth century French citizens on a broad canvas. The stories are told with unfailing good humour and engage the attention of the reader from the very first page. Adebayo Lamikanra, the author of another collection of short stories, A round half-dozen, is a Professor of Pharmaceutical Microbiology at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
