A silly sequel to The Sled, The Blue Door follows the further adventures of Fox and the Rabbit as they travel to the city to visit Fox's uncle. Fox hasn't seen his uncle since he was a pup, but he can recall the wonderful stories his uncle used to tell. And he knows that Uncle lives in a house with a blue door, so he should be easy to find. And sure enough, when the two come to the city, they find a house with a blue door. And inside lives an old gentleman badger who seems surprised but very pleased to entertain a long-lost nephew and his friend. But when they sit down for tea, Fox eagerly recalls his favourite stories. Uncle begins to look confused; he doesn't remember any of those things happening to him. And...come to think of it, Uncle actually doesn't remember having any nephew, let alone one of the long-lost variety.

About the Author:

David McPhail is a Fitzhenry and Whiteside author.

From School Library Journal:
Kindergarten-Grade 2-A fun story of mistaken identity. Fox invites his friend Rabbit to accompany him to the city to visit his uncle. Although Fox can't remember what his uncle looks like or his address, he knows that Uncle Fox tells wonderful stories and has a blue door. The two friends eagerly knock on the first blue door they come upon and are greeted by a kindly, myopic Badger who asks them to come in for tea. Fox cheerfully retells the stories his uncle told him years ago, but Badger doesn't remember them. Finally he admits that he doesn't have a nephew and an abashed Fox sets out again with his friend, confused by the abundance of blue doors in the city. All ends happily, however, when Rabbit spies "Captain Fox's Blue Door Caf‚," where the true uncle is waiting with open arms. This spirited escapade is enhanced by pastel illustrations. The story brings forth good feelings-Fox and Rabbit are obviously best pals, Badger is good-natured and accommodating, and, even though the two travelers have made a mistake, they have also made a new friend. Readers will identify with the confusion the two feel as they traipse through the city and will be content with the final resolution.
