George Briggs and his wife, Millie, both 69 and retired midwest farmers now residing in San Francisco, are visiting friends in Iowa after attending the Golden Wedding of George's brother in Chicago. At 3:00 a.m., during his first night at the Morson farm near Tama, George sees peculiar lights across the lane. He investigates and is abducted by extra-terrestrials in a UFO. Waking up a few hours later, George finds himself lyng by a roadside near the Hoover Dam in Nevada. He relates the incident to two Las Vegas newspaper reporters and returns home with his wife. Scepticism reigns but soon dissipates when George undergoes dramatic changes in his appearance and virility. He is convinced he was injected with a serum that rejuvenated him and reversed his aging. His wife can't accept the fact that he looks so much younger than she and resorts to alcohol for solace. She frequents downtown bars and becomes comatose after a fall from a city cable car. When his wife is in the hospital, George, (the despicable cad!) succumbs to the irresistable charms of a lonely seductive widow. While making a transaction at a local bank, he attempts to prevent a robbery by criminals who are using ingenious disguises. One of the bandits shoots George, shielding a female security guard. His wounds heal so rapidly his doctors are baffled and also find it hard to believe their patient is old enough to be on Medicare. George purposely avoided telling them about his UFO encounter to avert possible disbelief. Joe Korzak, one of the Las Vegas Sun reporters, persuades George to appear on a San Francisco television talk show. This leads to a collaboration on a book about George's life and abduction and a lucrative offer for a motion picture based on the book. In Sausalito, California, on his way to try to reconcile with his wife and daughter, George recognizes the bank robber who shot him. The man was making a purchase in a popular fish and chip shop. George trails his assailant and two accomplices. During a "cat and mouse" car and truck chase he is again wounded, this time almost killed. The perpetrators are apprehended by Marin County police employing the latest technology designed to halt fleeing vehicles and to subdue criminals. A police helicopter transports George over the Golden Gate Bridge to a San Franscisco hospital, but due to unprecedented loss of blood, he almost expires. The "magic" serum has evidently drained from his blood stream and he rapidly regresses to his chronological age. A few months later, George dies from a heart attack in his new home in Sausalito. He is buried in Cypress Lawn Cemetary south of San Francisco. Later in the year, George's wife and daughter visit the Morson farm near the village of Tama where two young entrepreneurs are making a handsome profit from the sales of memorabilia at the UFO landing site.
