PreSchool-Grade 1–This alphabet book leaves much to be desired. Although the bright illustrations feature a cast of lovable cartoon animals, the text provides very little information. For example, "Aa is for Apple Pie, warm from the oven. Mmmm!" and "Bb is for Baseball–cheer the home team. Yay!" Some of the phrases could apply anywhere, such as "Cc is for Camping–sing together by the fire." When specific sites or landmarks are highlighted, such as the Liberty Bell or Niagara Falls, their locations are not mentioned. The endpapers include an outline map of the U.S. that pinpoints the states, but many are listed only by their abbreviations. Despite the colorful artwork, this offering falls flat.–Karen Land, Greenport Public School, NY
